Vacation Tips & Giveaway: Meal Planning

One thing I did not think about before going on vacation was what we would eat once we got home.   I worked hard the week before we left to clean out the food in the fridge.  When we arrived home I realized I needed to go to the grocery store if we were to eat more than frozen meals.  I was too exhausted to come up with a meal plan though.

I've vowed that on our next vacation I will have a meal plan in place before we leave on vacation.  I will do my best to have a grocery list to go with it too so I can ease back into life after vacation instead of being thrown back into it.

One thing that did help me get back on track after vacation was that Kroger started their annual Cart Buster event just days after I got home.  This allowed me stock up on great name brand products at a reduced price.

The Cart Buster event continues through August 17 so you still have a few days to get in on the savings.  Be sure to visit the Cart Buster website every day between now and August 16 to download the "Deal of the Day" exclusive offers.

Kroger and MyBlogSpark kindly provided me a gift card to share this annual event with you and they also provided a gift card for me to give to one of my readers.

To enter the giveaway for a $25 Kroger gift card, share one of your favorite vacation tips.  It can be geared towards planning, places to go, how to survive with children, basically whatever you want to share.

For extra entries, subscribe to Living Life With Less via RSS or email.

Mention this giveaway on Facebook or Twitter.

This contest will be open until 9 pm CST on Monday, August 15.  Winner will have 48 hours to respond or another winner will be chosen.

Disclosure: The Kroger gift card, information, and giveaway have been provided by Kroger and General Mills through MyBlogSpark

My vacation tip throws frugality out the window but welcomes relaxation. My tip is to leave the kids at home and go to an all inclusive resort! This way you have NO distractions! NO kids, and NO cooking or meal planning! During some stages of life it is worth a little extra $ !

Create a travel packing list on the computer. Each time you go somewhere over night, print it out and use it to check things off when you pack to leave. Keep the list with you while you're gone (so you know what you took) and check the items off again when you pack up to come home. A great way to free up brain space and a great way to keep from leaving stuff behind.

If you're traveling with kids, have them make lists of things they don't want to forget--that way, when you're remembering the toothpaste and clean underwear, they can remember their toys and gadgets!

The biggest thing on my mind with vacations this year is traveling with small children. We went to KY to see my dad last week and I had a DVD player, Color Wonder books, toys, magazines, Veggie Tales tapes, snacks, etc. I had about two bags full of things to do. It was approx. 8 hours in the car with a 4 and 1 year old, we survived! lol

I really like googling the location prior to going. You find lots of coupons and new/interesting things about the location you may not have known about had you just gone.

Before we go on vacation, I do plenty of research beforehand. I will look up the town's visitor bureau and request a tourism packet to be shipped to us. It will usually have coupons for local restaurants, resorts, and attractions. I do like to go out to eat when we vacation, I am not one of those extremers that will only make peanut butter and jelly sandwiches in our room. Coupons and knowledge of specials (like kids eat free deals certain nights of the week) make that much easier.
